Q & A with Mr. Atkins
Highlight of the year:
The highlight of my year is doing poetry, when the students create a poetry book filled with poems they wrote.
I am most passionate about making the words on the page come to life. Showing the students that there is a whole world between those lines, they just have to look. I also am passionate about being “real” with the students, encouraging them to be themselves and not care what anyone else thinks.
My classroom is for open ideas and open hearts. Everyone is welcome in my classroom and all thoughts and viewpoints are accepted.
Favorite part of teaching:
My favorite thing is seeing students get excited about reading when they would rather have a tablet or phone in their hands.
Favorite teaching memory:
I love working on the school play every year and creating fantastic memories with my students.
Favorite thing about St. Martha:
I love how we are just one big family here at St. Martha.
My hope for my students:
I hope that my students grow up to be the person they want to be and not the person they think other people want them to be.
I’m a huge nerd, and my favorite book series of all time is Harry Potter.
